A pd equipment travel list

Hi Fellows Travelers,

Here's a list of stuff (see attachment) you might find interesting if you want to get away for a few days, we cruise a lot,
so that's why the days are as such, extra stuff just encase you need it.
A few more tips, when toting that cute little PD machine around you can always get one of those little black portable carriers with
the little wheels, it comes with straps, usually found in the travel department it's a bit easier, and be sure to hold to that puppy, as you don't want to drop it.
Always take the PD machine on board anyplace you go, plane, ship where ever, tell them it's about $20,000. they will not
give you a hard time (TSB inspectors will be in awe of it)
We carry most, if not all of the other stuff in an American Tourister (sp) Bag, we marked the bag "Sensitive Medical Equipment"
both sides, you can also put "Dialysis Supplies" optional.
Wherever you go research and write down the phone numbers of any Dialysis place just encase there is something you can't handle, as well as the Emergency number on your machine, and your nurses or doctors number, it comes in handy.

Almost forgot, when you do cruise and/or travel I suggest buying a 15 foot heavy duty extension plug so you can reach any outlet on ship or in thee room you are staying.

I have been on PD for a year now and made over 15+ flights with my machine. NOT ONCE has an airline allowed me to bring ti on board, no matter what forms of proof I have for the need of the machine OR no matter how much I beg and cry. I have supplied them with the patient rights document and they have all made me check the machine. And yes, they beat the crap out of the machine and case, no matter how well labeled it is. I have invested in several straps to keep my machine case closed during transport. All of which have been ripped off, machine broken and case open upon arrival. i am now driving to as many destinations as possible to avoid the stress fromthe airlines. OH, and lets not forget that Baxter is not shipping any travel product right now. Good thing I only have to travel for work and not just the pure enjoyment of it.

Your reply is interesting because I do most of my travel with Southwest Airlines. the one time I did check my machine to Las Vegas, they broke it. However, Baxter sent me another one the next day. Since then, I always bring my machine on board with me and store it in the overhead bin thanks to the kind gentlemen sitting around me. I always tell them when I'm checking it that the machine costs $20,000. I had a letter from my dialysis center and I have never had a problem. Even once, years ago, when I was traveling on a small plane, the flight attendants placed the machine in their area for me.

I actually did have a problem flying southwest on March this year. They did not allow to bring my machine on plane and it was damaged. What letter from dialysis center suppose to say about it?

I have traveled by plane only 2 times since I started PD dialysis on a cycler. I have not been able to find a suitcase for my cycler that fits into the airline's carry-on template. All of the suitcases that I have looked at (many many suitcases) are either too small to fit the cycler or too big to fit their guidelines. I do have one suitcase that is about 2 inches too long to fit into the overhead bin so when I made my reservation I explained that I cannot check my cycler, it must be carried on. Since my husband and I each get space for one carry on bag, they allowed us to use our two spots and put the suitcase in horizontally.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had trouble finding a suitcase that fits the cycler without it being too big for the airline's carry-on template. We had one layover when we flew the last time so we had to explain the situation 4 times; once when we flew out, then made our connecting flight, then when we flew back home and made the other connecting flight. So frustrating! Thank you for any help you can give.
