  • Red, bloodshot eyes - is this related to the degree of my PKD?

My kidney function, according to my blood tests a couple of months ago, was about 17%. In the past couple of weeks, swelling in my ankles has dramatically increased, throughout my day, and I've found that my eyes are very red and bloodshot in the mornings, once or twice to the point of having large broken blood vessels. In your experience, is this related to progression of the disease or may it just be coincidental?

Hi Dan- I'm in stage IgA nephropathy CKD 4 borderline not yet on dialysis but about once a month my eyes do get blood shot red and it hurts- I keep forgetting to ask doctor why it's happening. I'm sure it has somthing to do with kidneys.

I also had this problem and was put on eye drops by the eye doctor to keep the eyes moist.
I had read an article about polycystic kidney's and calcium deposits that can cause the eyes to
hurt and itch. Mine did both. I am in stage 5 and on dialysis for one month with still problems
with eyes hurting and itching and using eye drops to sooth them.
