How safe is it to have a colonoscopy while you are on dialysis? Won't all the water you have to drink put you way over the fluid allowance?

Great question! I never thought about that. I researched the question and there is not much tangible information. I did find these sources, however...
1. http://www.planetgi.com/worxcms_publ..._page117.shtml
2. http://www.liverpoolgastroenterology...20Patients.pdf
The fluids and their contents can be fatal as reported in this document... http://ndt.oxfordjournals.org/content/21/4/1133.full
I highly suggest you discuss this matter with your nephrologist before you continue with the procedure.

Trust me (and those of us who have had this procedure) in telling you that very little of that awful prep solution is going to remain inside you. After about 3 hours, it's going to go through you faster than an A-train through lower Manhattan!

Also, I told my colonoscopy doctor that I would throw up the drink because my body would not hold the liquid. I am in stage 5 and ready for dialysis and had trouble even keeping food down. He gave me this new stuff where I only drank two cups of that stuff. It worked just as well and I was able to keep it in my stomach. I took the prescription to my kidney specialist and he said it was safe. Just a thought.
