Hi, my husband needs to up his albumin level from 2.2 to 2.9 before he is eligible for a transplant. Any tips? He is eating egg whites now. Also wondering if local farm fresh eggs have more or less albumin than generac store bought eggs? Thank you in advance. We are new to kidney disease.Tags: None

There is an article here on Davita about raising albumin levels. I just did a search in yahoo and found it.Originally posted by Nnandacharternet View PostHi, my husband needs to up his albumin level from 2.2 to 2.9 before he is eligible for a transplant. Any tips? Farm fresh eggs have the same protein content as those you buy in the grocery store, but you can get more protein by using the larger size eggs or adding an additional egg white. Getting adequate calories is also very important so the protein consumed is used to rebuild and not as a calorie source. Your dietitian can provide information on protein supplements--liquids, powders and bars--that may help boost protein intake. Also there are high protein smoothie recipes in the DaVita.com Recipe section. Some patient have very low albumin levels related to proteinuria--large amounts of protein lost in the urine. This makes it more difficult to increase albumin. In my experience as urine output declines and there is less protein loss, it becomes easier for albumin to rise.
