Dear michrobles. I recommend you speak with the dietitian and doctor who cares for your mom at her dialysis clinic. They will be able to evaluate her blood work results and find a plan that works for her- both through diet and medication. Additional resources include the "food analyzer", "diet helper" and "davita pulse blog"- all on this website. As a general guideline for phosphorus, if she is struggling, look to see if there are any products she is consuming that contain artificial phosphorus additives as these can increase phosphorus levels. Example- certain brands of meat add phosphorus, processed foods like chips, dark colas.

Renal Diet
I am a Registered Dietitian who works with dialysis patients. I am curious to know what patients find to be the most confusing aspect of the renal diet? What was the most difficult when you were new to dialysis? What is the most difficult part of your diet now that you have been on dialysis for a while? It would be good to know from your perspective!Tags: None
