My husband's kidneys are failing for the second time. His failed eight years ago because of Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer, then recovered four years ago. Unfortunately, his cancer is now out of control and is causing his kidneys to fail again. We expect him to have a PD catheter placed sometime this month.
Because his calcium and phosphorus are high, we are doing everything we can with his diet. First time around, once he stabilized, we didn't have to worry about diet; in fact, we had to supplement his phosphorus because it was too low! We hope that happens again, but meanwhile, our 27-year old daughter and I are frustrated because we don't want to eat what we view as an unhealthy diet for those who don't have any dietary restrictions. How have other families handled this? I don't have the energy to cook two meals all the time (I have fibromyalgia and am still recovering from a knee replacement)! Any suggestions would be welcome!
